On a typical day, here's what you'll be working on: 

Provide coding of anesthesia records and any applicable supporting documentation. Coding will be applicable to anesthesia charts and will include the following:

  • Selection of the highest surgical/procedure CPT code crosswalk (Unit)
  • Corresponding Surgical CPT code
  • Diagnosis related to Surgical CPT selection
  • Review of medical necessity/comorbidity when applicable to the services rendered
  • Coding consideration to anatomical structure, patient position, and surgical approach
  • Procedure modifier(s) as defined and acceptable to anesthesia services, to include informational modifiers and modifiers to indicate deep complex, complicated, or markedly invasive surgical procedures
  • Proper selection of anesthesia qualifier as indicated and support by surgical procedure
  • Additional services such as nerve blocks and line/tube placement as warranted and performed by an anesthesia provider

This job description will be reevaluated by leadership periodically to allow any necessary modification due to client profiles changes/updates, workflows, policy changes, and regulatory compliance requirements

Daily Coding

  • Reconciliation of anesthesia records to schedule when applicable and available
  • Responsible to maintain quality and quantity as directed
  • Create, maintain, and communicate missing and/or insufficient documentation as needed to properly assign and maximize coding selections
  • Weekly communications with management/department leaders to track trends critical to the coding department
  • Additional duties as assigned

Coding/Compliance

  • To ensure the security and confidentiality of all clinical data handled, including the safe keeping of all health records 
  • To function as first point of contact regarding coding issues 
  • To promote the interchange of dialogue between nimble management and coders
  • To have an active involvement in the development and implementation of current information relevant to anesthesia coding
  • To be aware of all statutory and local requirements regarding coding policy changes
  • Assist with client billing questions in a professional and timely manner
  • Complete coding queues and AR query as assigned
  • Address client concerns in a prompt and professional manner
  • Participate in task force committees and special projects, as required
  • Assist with client audits, as needed

Requirements

Who you are! 

  • AAPC or AHIMA certification required, such as CPC, CPC-H, CCS, or CCS-P
  • Two years of medical coding, billing, and management experience preferred
  • Anesthesia/surgical coding preferred
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and clients
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical/Functional
  • Knowledge of Health Care industry 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows, and Excel
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze and problem solve
  • Ability to work with accuracy and diligence
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
